When I started studying theology one of the first books we looked at was Rudolf Otto's 'Sense of the Numinous' (also rather boringly translated as 'Sense of the Holy'). I think it's meant to denote an understanding of what is sacred that is meant to be intrinsic in all of us. Like when you pass a startlingly perfumed Anne Doyle in Ranelagh and an awed hush descends over you and your comrades for a moment or so as you soak in the magnitude. On another note, hope you had a numinous birthday and didn't debase yourself too much. {insert further Doolittle related lines here} Ah, that brings me back.
