DEMOCRACY R.I.P.

It looks like we are to have another general election.

Yes, because apparently we didn’t vote in the right people last time, and they’re going to keep on dragging us back to the polls until our faceless masters get what they want. It could be sprung on us at any moment (although probably 2012) and you can bet your arse that they’ll wait until we’re at our most scared and disoriented to try and sneak it through (although, again, probably 2012). I would urge you to at least spend ten minutes doing a bit of research and getting yourself to at least some kind of bare, junior infants-level understanding of the issues, but what’s the point? What would even be the chuffing point? We all know that it’s the worthless sheepy ludramans who form 51% of the population who carry these things1, and even if by some kind of sexy miracle they manage to get their thumbs out and vote the right way (which is to say, the wrong way as far as the fat cats are concerned) then it will probably turn out that that was the wrong way to vote all along (which is to say, vice versa)!! And EVEN IF there’s a sexy miracle and thumbs are out and so on and they vote the right way (the right way) and that turns out to actually be the actual right way (see previous) then there’ll just be ANOTHER election in a few years’ time, and another, until we DO get it (actually) wrong (from our point of view2)!!!

There is JUST NO POINT TO ANY OF THIS.

  1. except for that one time where they voted the same way I did, which was a triumph of democracy []
  2. namely, us being, viz, the enlightened 49% []

if there’s no right answer, then there’s no point in worrying about it.

  2. 2 Colm

Pfft. You think that’s gonna stop us?

  3. 3 Darren

    I don’t have the words…

But I will find them and write a long ranty post about it.

  4. 4 Colm

But at whose expense, that’s what I’d like to know.

Well said Colm. But sure isn’t it always the same. Create lots of fear and panic, offer your solution to said panic (that you of course created) and people will choose to follow your solution.

    Thesis, Anti-thesis, Synthesis.
The oldest trick in the book, and yet we’re suckered in everytime.

Look at the Irish pork crisis. Those lousy farmers sat on the fence to long when Lisbon(1) was going on, but after the governments complete mismanagement of the crusus you can be sure and certain they’ll remember which side their bread is [supposedly]buttered. I wonder which way the IFA will suggest it’s members vote on Lisbon(2).

‘We all know that it’s the worthless sheepy ludramans who form 51% of the population who carry these things’
It’s interesting to hear all the French, Irish and Americans (to name but a few) who cry out proudly, ‘We live in a democracy’.
I disagree. Democracy is where 51% of the people tell 49% of the people what to do. Ireland, France and the USA are constitutional republics with democraticly elected governments. Our rights are inshrined in our constitutions which our governments swear to up hold and protect. You know, the constitution we have to undermine and change constantly in order to be good Euopeans and serve the Euro-fat cats (Les Gros Chats!).
What ever way you feel about Lisbon, the re-vote is a blindingly obvious insult to self determination. It is an insult to the Irish people, No and Yes voters alike. It is evidence to me of the disapointing direction the EU has taken. I know it’s been said to the point of cliché but the No vote wasn’t against Europe, just this type of Europe.

Dangit, doesn’t anyone get satire anymore?

what you o about son, there will be no general election, local and county elections are next year

  8. 8 C'est La Craic

A bit too subtle for the likes of me, Colm. Perhaps it’s too close to reality to be stirical, from my point of view of course.

  9. 9 C'est La Craic

    ‘satirical’ even…
